Stockholm, SwedenTutus Data commissioned atsec information security to evaluate its EU-approved VPN crypto Färist VPN, according to the EAL5 of Common Criteria.

Färist is a VPN solution providing secure communication over untrusted IP-networks, making it possible to interconnect private networks across such public networks using encrypted tunnels. Tutus developed the VPN solution in cooperation with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and the Swedish Armed Forces.

The Common Criteria standard is recognized worldwide for its IT security evaluations. Evaluation Assurance Level 5 (EAL5) provides developers with maximum assurance security in engineering based upon rigorous commercial development practices supported by a moderate application of specialist security engineering techniques.

“Tutus is committed to providing approved solutions for secure communication of classified information. Färist VPN is based on over 20 years of experience in designing high assurance cryptographic systems. With the EAL5 evaluation, our customers can rest assured that Färist VPN will meet all requirements regarding secure VPN solutions,” says Per Holmer, CTO of Tutus Data.
Staffan Persson, Managing Director at atsec information security adds: “The previous version of the Färist was subject to atsec’s, as well as BSI’s evaluation, and an EAL4+ evaluation by CSEC. We believe that choosing EAL5 represents a significant increase in assurance suitable for government and high-security customers. The additional requirements set out in EAL5 will increase the confidence and reduce the number of measures necessary for local government approval. Based on our previous experience working with Tutus, we are confident that this evaluation will be beneficial to all involved.”
